THE ACCOUNTABILITY PLAN

ALWAYS BEING ACCESSIBLE

I Will Always Be Open and Accessible To You:

THE PROBLEM

  • Too often politicians get elected and then forget about the people who voted for them.
  • Many residents believe that politicians say one thing during election campaigns and do another after they get elected.
  • THE SOLUTION

  • If elected, I will take proactive steps to engage all residents to ensure I am always putting your priorities first.
  • I will always be accessible to you.
  • Accessibility and Accountability are my top priority.
  • I entered the public service so I can serve – I will never forget why I am in public service and who put me there.
  • GETTING THINGS DONE (Accomplishments 2014-2018):

    I am proud of our accomplishments over the past 4-years:

  • Responded to thousands of calls and e-mails from Vaughan residents raising issues important to them;
  • Circulated (weekly/monthly/quarterly) e-mail newsletters to everyone who signed up;
  • Published (weekly/monthly/quarterly) reports in local newspapers to keep you informed;
  • Held/attended at hundreds of meetings and events with residents and groups and events to hear your priorities and to keep you notified with what was happening at City hall;
  • Implemented the lobbyist registry; and,
  • Vaughan is 1 of 38 municipalities in all of Ontario to have an Integrity Commissioner, 1 of 19 to have an Internal Auditor, 1 of 8 to have an anonymous reporting system; & 1 of 6 to voluntarily implement a Lobbyist Registry.
  • If Elected I Will to Continue to Implement My 5-Point Plan for Remaining Accessible to You Which I Call the ACCOUTABILITY PLAN:

    1. Never Forget Why I am in Public Office and Who Put Me There.

    I first entered public office so that I can give back to the Country, Province, and City that provided me with more opportunity than I could ever imagine. Prior to entering public service I was a community activist who took steps to make Vaughan a better place to live. Among other things I worked with other community members to: (1) establish Vaughan C.A.R.E.S. to fight the dump in Maple; (2) establish the annual MAPLEFEST community festival to bring friends and neighbours together; (3) establish day camps for youth; (4) establish social clubs for seniors; and, (5) keep council accountable. I first put my name in for public office because I knew it would be easier to work from within the City to bring about real change than to continue lobbying the City. If elected, I am committed to never forgetting my roots as a community activist and why I am in public office in the first place. Further, I will never forget the residents of Vaughan who elected me and I work every day and night to put your priorities first. Together we will never stop improving the City we call home.

    2. Respond to Your E-mails and Phone Calls Promptly and Always Within 48 Hours.

    If elected, I am your voice at City council. I take that role as your representative very seriously. In fact, nothing is more important to me from a professional perspective than hearing feedback from you, answering your questions, and responding to your concerns. That is why I guarantee that I will always respond to your e-mails and phone calls as soon as I can and always within 48 hours.

    3. Seek out and Implement Policies Geared Toward Increasing Accountability at City Hall.

    Last election I told you that I was committed to increasing accountability and that I wanted to implement a lobbyist registry; well, the lobbyist registry was implemented in 2018 so now communications between public officials and people or businesses that have the intention to effect changes to legislation, regulations, programs etc. It ensures that people who want to influence Members of Council and staff detail who is being spoken to, on whose behalf and what is being discussed.

    I will continue to seek out and implement policies such as the lobbyist registry geared toward increasing accountability at City Hall.

    4. Regularly Update You With Progress Reports Via E-mail and the City’s Website.

    If elected I will continue to keep you updated by posting on the City’s website what I’m working on, progress made to date, and key upcoming dates so you know can stay informed and hold me accountable. If you wish, I will regularly send progress reports to your e-mail.

    5. Regularly Meet With Community Leaders.

    Community leaders can provide valuable insight on issues affecting the community as well as offer advice on how to address those issues. I am committed to continue to meet regularly with community leaders to ensure that I know what your priorities are and to hear community driven ways to address those issues.
